2.9 to 4.0
Hello guys, I have a 87 ranger with a 2.9 engine in it, i recently purchased a 96 4.0 ranger engine, i was fully prepared to do battle with the wiring harness, throttle cables , ECM, and AC Stuff, however i seen another site that suggested that the pre -1994 4.0 engines are the best for this conversion because 1995 and 1996 engines require extentive adapting. Do anyone know what else will need to be done? will existing tranny and drive shaft work? will it fit?
Has any one done this before?

You CAN use everything from the tranny back, but if you only want the small block on that 96 and *still* have to look from the wiring from as EARLY a model 4.0L as you can find, do as you are now. The 4.0 came in around 90, so try to find that year wiring to make this easy as possible for you.
