1999 E-150

I put a deposit on a 1999 E-150 Econoline Chateau. It has a 5.4 V8, with 73,000 miles. i believe it has a 3.55 rear end I talked the seller down to $6900. I am planning on towing a 29ft trailer (4960# dry). Body in great condition. Runs strongand looks pretty clean.

1. Does this sound like a good deal?? Carfax report came back clean.

2. Will I have any problems towing the travel trailer?

Thanks.

Nate

I have the exact same van since new. The price sounds good but I am no expert. I tow a 23' boat that I figure is about 5,000 lbs fully loaded. It pulls it well but I live in Miami where there are no hills (I still lock out the overdrive). The rear end does sag some and I have wanted to get some air-rides to bring up the rear, but the boat stays at a marina mostly so I do not tow a lot. A van is not going to pull as well as a pickup because of the heavier weight of the van. Still, I am quite happy. BTW- the front brakes are not a strong suit of the Ford E-150, so your trailer should have brakes.

The van will do great, our '88 CW with a 302 pulls our 16 foot car hauler (loaded) just fine.

I added some half-leaf helper springs to the rear of mine, and run the Brutestop line of pads. Tows pretty well.
