Help! Power Antenna Motor

I'm in the process of repalcing the power antenna on my 98 Explorer Sport and got to the part where I remove the old antenna... unfortunately it seems that part of the plastic cable has broken off inside the motor. So it seems that my only course of action is to remove the motor and open it up so that the plastic cable can be removed. One problem... I have no idea how to get at the antenna motor. It's not made clear in my Chilton guide at all, nor does it seem obvious to me from looking at my SUV.

Any help with explaning how I remove the motor would be greatly appreciated!

Where are the instructions?

Thanks for responding, but in your posts, it only says "refer to antenna-motor". I don't see any actual instructions on how to remove the entire motor assembly.

Thanks!

Hey (Ntermini): here is that information you requested,

HERE IS THE DETAILED DIRECTIONS OF REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION OF THE POWER ANTENNA GOOD LUCK!

Power Antenna Removal

1. Unsnap the radio antenna base cap

2. Remove the radio antenna nut

3. Remove the antenna mast and cable.

Turn the ignition switch to the ACC position.

Turn the radio chassis ON/OFF switch to ON.

Firmly pull the antenna mast and cable out of the electric antenna motor.

Installation

1. Note:
Check the end of the plastic antenna drive cable for a slight taper. If the drive cable is broken, a section of cable may be inside the electric antenna motor. Remove the broken cable. Refer to «Antenna—Motor».

Position the cable so the teeth are facing the front of the vehicle.

2. Insert the antenna.

l Manually extend the antenna.

l Insert the cable until resistance is felt.

l Turn the cable slightly left and right to fully engage the cable into the motor gear.

3. Have an assistant turn the ignition switch to ACC and turn the radio chassis ON/OFF switch from ON to OFF.

4. Apply light downward pressure to the antenna as the electric antenna motor starts retracting the cable.

5. Guide the antenna in as the motor winds the cable into the drive unit and retracts the antenna sections.

6. Install the radio antenna nut.

7. Install the radio antenna base cap.

8. Cycle the electric antenna motor several times to ensure the antenna is extending and retracting properly.
