I own a 1994 Ford Explorer (4.0 pushrod). I have two questions. 1. I had the truck diagnosed for the check engine light being on and the dealer said that the problem was with the cam position sensor. The truck runs fine. If the cam sensor was bad, would the truck even start?
2. If the Cam sensor is the problem, can someone tell me exactly where this
sensor is located?
It is stuck somewhere on the back of the block on 4.0 OHV engines. It will still start but would run like crap since it times the sequence of the fuel injectors. Do the wiring checks for the sensor, most likely bad connection/wiring.
I just replaced one today. It is a piece of cake, I went to a self serve junk yard they charged me $39 for all the parts I could carry out. It is on the back of the block to the right of the center line. Just unscrew the two phillips head screws R&R and your done no nead to mess w/timing. If you buy the complete sensor it comes (for sh**s and giggles) like a distributer. To me is a waste as the only thing that wears is the top half.
