i have a 99 ranger 3.0l. got in the truck, turned it on, the ac just blows hot air. we just put headers and duals on it, we had to lean on the line for the ac a lot to get the header in, but i'm not sure if this has something to do with it. i turn the ac on and i don't get the normal click of the ac coming on. we're lost, any help is greatly appreciated.
i'm wondering if leaning on that line might have caused a small seperation in a connection and allowed the freon to leak out slowly? or maybe you knocked a connector off accidently?
check clutch cyling switch(think it is on the dryer tank)has 2 wires both should be hot when blower on and ac button pushed in. if only 1 wire hot the cyling switch is bad or no freon,(jumper the 2 wires and the comp. should engage.)
If no hot wires you have a bad fuse or a bad wire or a problem in the control head
You can get a non powred test light at your fav parts store pretty cheap. One end has a large alligator clip..hook to neg battery rerminal. The other end looks like an ice pick with a small bulb in it. Hook the clip to the neg terminal on battery, and touch the other end to the pos terminal. this just tests the bulb to make sure it's working. Then just touck the sharp end to the wire you want to test. Some guys use the sharp end to pierce the wire, if it's hard to get at the connection.
Hi Rockledge, Hope I'm not stepping on anyone's toes. Just wanted to help out a little. Let me know if my posts are annoying! With gas prices, and the misery of working on a 5.8 van, my next Ford will probably be a Ranger..So I'm trying to do a little research.

Hi Leo,
I don't understand ...what makes you think your posts are annoying, or that you're stepping on anyone's toes?
There aren't any toes to be stepped on, here or anywhere else at FTE. I encourage you to continue to add your two cents whenever and wherever you want.
Did you happen to unplug the harness by chance from the compressor?? You may want to consider going to a shop and just have the systems pressure checked. If it's still charged, it could also be a bad Low Pressure Switch.
Try starting the truck and turning the A/C on then wiggling the connections on the compressor and the pressure switch( on the line) and see if the compressor kicks on.I put a new battery on mine and pulled the wires a little and mine quit.I jiggled the wires a little and it came on again.sometimes they loose connection.
