1977 c6 transmission help

1977 c6 transmission help

changed tranny fluid gasket and filter gasket had small leak. now it will not go in drive i only have reverse, dosent even sound like it is engaging in drive and it take about 20 seconds for it to engage in reverse. what is the problem it worked just find before

low on fluid ?

fluid level is full im still baffled

Are you sure the 3/8" hex valve body screws are tight.

I would take it back apart & see if you've over looked something.

Mine did the same thing when I pressure washed the underneath of my truck because the modulator came off.

I have taken the pan and filter off to check everything out it all is working properly and replaced it with new fluid and it is going in drive now but it is slipping badly what can i do ?

Why did you decide to do that? Sometimes a tranny in need of rebuild getting new fluid will cause it to stop working.

Did the trans work fine before you took it apart ? Sounds like there is something wrong with the forward clutch. But it could be a problem in the valve body. I would put a psi gage on it & see what it's doing.

I think you told us what's wrong. I would change that gasket for sure and adjust the intermediate band. Loosen lock nut, tighten to 120"lbs or 10'lbs, back it off 1 and 1/2 turns, tighten lock nut. Book says to replace lock nut but, if it leaks you'll have to, right?
