I am looking at a 1971 EB with the 302, D44, dual Gas tanks, 3 spd, wagon. I will be asking more questions about the EB when I talk to the guy. Everyone out there who has bought or owns an EB where are the biggest places to look for rust or problems when first inspecting an EB for sale? Also if there are any tips or things I should look for when I talk to this guy. Thanks

It seems any eastern U.S. Bronco that has been used will have rust. Door post are the first places I would look. I have seen doors that would move the front fenders when shut. In the interior look where the front part of the cab meets the rear floor. Look under the hood at the inner fenders near the tub. Also look at the frame. The rear shock mounts can get pretty bad as can just in front of the rear bumper. Eastern Broncos are rusty. If you want one without rust look in Texas. Different years will rust in different places. I have a 71 with a really solid tailgate while my 73's tailgate is all but gone. If you haven't looked at it yet dont be suprised if you can throw a cat through the rust holes.
About the steering box, My 73 drifts terribly, Is there an adjustment on the power steering box? My 78 had a similar problem and I replaced the drag link, drives like new now. Do you know if there is a better box than the factory one?
Rust, if you look under, over and inbetween everything, is usually preaty obvious.
Mechanical problems should also be a concearn unless you get a good enough price that you can aford to rebuild and replace all of the mechanical parts. You say it is a D44, but in 71 some were some worn't. Also big bearing or small bearing rearend is a big concern I think. I broke 2 rear small axels before upgrading to 31sp big bearing axels. The small bearing ends can be turned off of the axel housing and big ends welded in but it is just another thing that will add to the total price!
Funny you ask about rust. My son and I are doing a 72 right now. I had to cut the whole rear quarters off, inner and outer, including the wheel well. I am having troubles getting the inner quarter to fit. Anyone have suggestions? All parts were bought from JBG.
