I just bought an 02 explorer. It has the rear air and manual controls as opposed to the auto air. The problem is that the front 2 vents on the passenger side blow warm air. All other vents in the rear and on the driver side blow ice cold, just those 2 blow warm. Any ideas as to what could be the problem?
Initially I would guess that either a vent door is hung open and not closing properly, possibly the ducts feeding the vents are disconnected or blocked ( blockage is a slim possibility because you said it is blowing), or you have a vacume leak. Just some guesses.
Can you expand on the low freon the theory for me, I haven't heard of low freon causing one side to blow ice cold and the other hot but I haven't really done any repairs on 02 Explorers.
Thank you.

Some 2002 Explorer/mountaineer May Exhibit A Very Noticeable Difference In The Temperature Of The Air From The Instrument Panel Vents When The Air Conditioner Is In Operation. This May Be Due To A Low State Of Refrigerant Charge In The System. Verify The Condition And Perform Normal Preliminary Diagnosis Including Leak Testing Of The System. If No Other Concerns Are Found, Evacuate And Recharge The System. If Equipped With The Front Only (standard) Climate Control System, Charge With 0.96 Kg (34 Oz) Of Refrigerant. If Equipped With Auxiliary Climate Control (rear Air), Charge With 1.59 Kg (56 Oz.) Of Refrigerant.
