Exhaust routing
I want to keep everything nice and tight, tucked away under the truck because while aff road I would hate to smack something. How is my 422" FE motor with a Crower 270 cam, and all the goodies going to sound with my described single exhaust? I have found that a well built single exhaust performs better than dual, even with a x-pipe. I do not care about the sound outside the cab, I would like the interior noise level to be low however. The muffler was givin to me, so thats why im using it. thanks for any tips/expirences
On relatively stock powertrain, you can get away with single exhaust, but you will be missing out on some hp's. I'm not exactly sure how a single would better then dual. And I also recommend running it the full length, with the muffler just after the cab, with the tailpipe jumping over the rear axle, like my first sketch. Obviously, it makes it hard for water to back up into the muffler. And I've heard it's best to have the H-pipe as close to the flanges as possible. Mine will be just past the tranny.
