My side windows are getting verticle scratches from rolling the windows down. I keep my rig clean & it has not seen any mud, only 11,000 miles. My other rigs (older Ford & older GMC) do not have any scratches after 100,000 miles+. Is anyone having this problem. Is there a way to prevent it?
Thanks
This subject, like many, was covered here about a year ago. Seems that's yet another item (seal) that Ford did not use the best made material for. I've got scratches and don't plan to replace them because it'll just happen again, plus I like driving with the window down and hear my 444/turbo/intake even better
Binging up this thread again. My 06 is having the same problem with window scratches. Obviosly Ford hasn't fixed the problem yet. Is there a TSB on it or an aftermarket fix out there yet?
Hey guy's I don't know if anyone has mentioned it but when you wash your truck wash under the seal that seals the window just lift it up a little and wash it ain't hard to do I found this out the first time I went mudding in the ol girl

I have the same problem, when I roll the window down I just run my hand down the seal to get the dirt off. Dirt seems to stick to the seal. Ford could have designed it better.
Same problem on my 05 and I have always washed/sprayed the outside window seals/gaskets and I can't seem to get it to stop?? I haven;t brought it to the dealer because they would probably blame the window tint or the auto window roll down module, ect.....
The dealer replaced one side window. And, yes, the window scratched again. I wash the seal often and wipe it with my hand on every roll down. It is just a poor design.
Traded the 04 on an 06 350 Crew Diesel SD(large $$$) in Sept, has 10,000 miles. Guess what??? The side windows are scratching. I have been very careful to try to keep the seal clean (have a tooth brush in rig for cleaning), still get the scratches. Short of not using the windows, what can you do? We use a drive-thru at least once a day (food or bank).
Best luck i've had is when you 1st start rolling it down & hear the little scratchers in there doing there thing, I stop and put pressure on the outside of the window with my hand, and then roll it down (the small particles that are trapped in the felt seal won't have so much pressure on the window that way and they won't scratch it) then I use compressed air to blow the seal clean. The seal is totally exposed when the window is all the way down so it comes clean fairly easily. I do this quite regularly as I have some 35x12.50 Toyo MT's mounted on 10" wheels with 4" backspace so they stick out past the fender wells about 3". any time I drive when the roads are a mess, I have sand etc in the seal. I only have 5,000 miles on it and I've already noticed a couple scratches. That's why I devised my little method. Hope it helps.
I keep my vehicle spotless, don't off road, and clean under the seal. I took my 05 w/13k at the time and the dealer was trying to cover it, called Ford and they told the dealer no. The customer isn't washing his vehicle enough. So I'm happy to know, it's not only me not keeping up my vehicle. Instead of once a week we need to wash our vehicles once or twice a day.
