Unhappy HELP 360 to 302 in progress

71 f100, 36o by the vin. Used 302 junkyard perches, by the VIN. The left one is highest, the both fit in aft holes in frame and crossmember. Engine is very close to firewall. Driveline fwd slipjoint has 1'' spline exposed, rear shaft slipjoint aft of center hanger has 1/2" spline exposed. New engine is 87 302 w/ AOD. I feel that moving purches fwd will make all better! However that means drilling holes for perches because only one lines up for each perch. I thought all holes lined up for the perches? Also the left{ drivers}perch sweeps aft a lot! Thanx in advance, I am confused!!

when i did this swap some time ago i moved original 360 perches back to the other set of holes, same thing you see, engine to close, then moved them back to stock location and it fit great, the tranny crossmember needed two holes drilled for the mount. But I never swaped pirches. Hope this helps

Thanks krazdndenver. I tried the 360 perches and engine was high. Only one bolt hole lined up with the 302 perches so I poked some new holes. Former advice told me that there was 9 holes on each side and the perches would only match up properly. Truck must have been made on a Friday and they were in a hurry to leave cause I only had 5 holes on each side. Now I have a comfortable clearance at the firewall, fan sits nice in the schroud, and the two slip joints on the shaft have 1.5-2" spline showing. Thanx again.
