I am a graduate student researching Ford Motor Company, and I would love to have the opinion of Ford enthusiasts on the following questions:
1) What do you think of Ford’s efforts to become more environmentally friendly?
2) Do environmental issues (such as fuel economy, pollution, manufacturing processes, etc.) influence your decisions when buying an automobile? And if so, how?
3) What if any responsibility should auto makers have for the environment?
Thanks so much for your time and your help. I look forward to learning from your thoughts and opinions.
1) I suppose you are referring to the new Hybrid Ford Escape. This is really just a demonstration project, developed to keep the environmentalist off their back. We had the Saturn Electric car a few years ago and the new Honda and Toyota hybrids. They are all sold at a loss and have poor sales records compared to models they compete with.
Electric utilities do the same thing with wind and solar power gereration. Only an idiot would build a power plant that only works in the daytime on a sunny day, or when the wind is blowing.
2) Fuel economy is an issue, but only an economic one for me.
We should have them by '06... That is when the US gov, adopts the "european" standards for diesel fuels. Which will open up the market for the diesel powered cars again.
