I have a 1998 F-150 Extra Cab 5.4L 4x4. Auto trans. I hit the mud the other day and now my truck will not shift into third. I have taken it to a shop and he said he is not getting any codes saying something is wrong. Any ideas what this could be? Am I going to have to fork out the money for a new/rebuilt tranny?
I would suspect the tranny position switch on the side where the linkage goes into the casing. It acts as a neutral safety switch, back-up life switch and it tells the PCM what gear the shifter is in. It may be shorted and telling the PCM that the shifter is in 2nd and will not let it shift into 3rd or 4th.
