Why Why Why does nobody want to give advice on factory cd systems?
I have a 97 4x4offroad f150 w/ a factory am/fm/cassete. I want a factory cd player and in 97 ford offered the 6 disc or a 10 disc cd changer. Does any one know if my factory tape player will plug up to the factory changer or do i also need to buy the factory indash unit that works with the changer?
I'm buying from a junk yard, not ford .... $750.00 for a new 6 disc cahnger from ford yea like any ones gonna buy that
Does your factory stereo have the cd controls? My 99 Expedy had the am/fm cassette stereo w/ cd controls and it would work. That and a wiring harness is probably your only draw backs.........good luck!
The only way to get totally factory, is to have a radio with the 'cd' button. If you don't have one and dont want to change the radio, use a fm modulator and any brand cd changer will work. BTW, for your model year, the changer was only available in the lariat model. Also a later model (99 I believe and up) have different connectors on the back. So if you decide to use one of those, make sure you get the harnesses as well. Also, some of the explorer units where the same and same type wiring.
