There were aftermarket companies (still are), that would install certain aftermarket features to new vehicles, special paint jobs, as well as construct customised vehicles and put their own trim names on the trucks... Most popular with vans at the time.
Has anyone seen a four door 86 Bronco? I have!! Special constructed by one of these aftermarket companies...
Some of the trim names I've seen from aftermarket companies on ford trucks, Wanderer, Crosslander, Patriot, etc...
I guess it could be but there is nothing different about the truck that could be a special package thing or custom thing. Everything is just basic with a one speaker AM radio and a 302. It doesn't really matter i was just curious. Maybe it could be worth a bunch of money. So whatever thanks for the help.
The most comon of these aftermarket add ons at the time, were a customized back window, with a desert scene with wolves, or beach scenes.. etc... And custom paint or decals, showing desert scenes with wolves, or etc.. etc...
A theory is if the truck was re-painted, and the rear window decal removed, or replaced, could explain the badge too.
I know a guy who has a 78 F100 Custom shortbed that has this hood ornament with the 3 lions on it. His truck is all original with 40k miles on it. It is a plain-jane F100 with a 6 cyl. and a 3spd. He is the second owner of the truck. He bought it from the original owner late in 1978. I think it's kind of weird that they would put a hood ornament on an F100 Custom, but I guess it was an option.
Man, and here I only thought the hood ornament came with EXPLORER on it. Learning everyday.
Pizalm, That emblem with the crossroads on it is more than likely the name of the dealer where the truck was originally sold at.
