Please I need some help on my Ranger ( 90 ) When you turn the headlights on you have no dash lights or taillights. Brake lights and turn signals work fine. However, you can push ( very slightly ) on the headlight switch in a sort of on/ off position and everything works fine. I have all 3, headlights, taillights and dashlights, but the smallest bump causes 1 of these to go off, usually the headlights in a blind curve, before daylight, on a foggy morning,
( HA HA ). I replaced the obivious headlight switch and the same occurred..
Someone Please help.......also no parking lights.....
check the plug connector that plugs onto the new switch? I had one where one of the wires had corrosion on it and wasn't making full contact. I also had one where the wire had heated up and melted the connector and wasn't making contact.
Help I M Stuck,
I Have a similar problem as Black SuperCab FX4, I replaced the headlight switch, no luck. I still have no parking lights or dash lights.
How do I check the headlight switch plug?
Is that a part that is easily replaced?
Thanks.
Then most likely the big white plug going to the light switch has a burned out area in it. If this is the case, you're gonna need to replace the connector, and possibly some wires.
I looked at the white plug and there is indeed a spot that looks burnt out... well, I can get the lights to come on if I pull the switch all the way out and then push it back in just a bit.
Is replacing the white plug something that can be done in the driveway, or do I need a mechanic?
Thanks, B
If you know what yo're doing, it's fairly easy to do. The easiest way is to have the other plug in hand, then pull the wire out with the connector, and plug it into the same spot on the new plug. Take your time and make sure you get the entire connector out with each wire and it will work fine. You may need to replace the switch again once you change the plug, but you won't know that until you try!
