Ok another question.

I was reading mudinford's thread about a truck that was running badly and he mentioned that the TPS reading was: -TPS: 0.6-3.02 ohms. Well that got me to thinking... Has anyone played around with this? Making a switch to go to 0 ohms? Adding a 1 ohm resister? Anyone tried this and got an SES light?

I'm having trouble wrapping my brain around it this morning too. Are you wanting to make a WOT switch, and if you are, how is the resistor going to affect the reference voltage? 0 volts is idle and 5.0v is WOT (actually about 3.8v, but it would be 5 in a perfect world)

I was just wondering if anyone had played with those values before. Yes I was thinking about a WOT switch. Or the converse is add a small amount of resistance for better throttle response. But not both, that would be self defeating. I just don't know the design strategy for that part of the system yet. And if it just makes the ECU go into "limp home" mode by messing with the values that are being fed to the ECU by the TPS then what's the point of going through all that. I was wondering if somebody in the past had already done this and found that it was not worth all the effort. Or if it helps things. Or do I have too much time on my hands here? LOL.

You can make the throttle more responsive mechanically. Start by bending the tab down a little bit in the IVS to reduce or eliminate the "dead spot" between applying the throttle vs. the TPS actually moving. If that isn't enough for you, you can elongate the mount holes on the TPS to give it a bit more travel and give it a slightly higher WOT v-ref.

This mod is commonly sold through various vendors as a "quick pedal" et.al., but it's pretty easy to DIY.

Let me know if you can't find a link and I'll find it for you.....when I get back from the lake

Thanks Cookie. I don't think that I need to do that as my TPS is already "right there" as soon as the idle switch opens. The engine picks up with the slightest pedal application. What I was looking for was some free extra power. I was wondering if changing the output of the TPS a little would fool the computer into increasing pulse width at the injectors or something like that. Being a VW and Audi tech for 22 years, I have a lot of experience at working on cars and the PSD is a new playground for me.

Well, as they say the only dumb question is the one that you don't ask, or when to change spark plugs on a diesel.
