My 2wd m5r2 ran itself out of oil heated up and crapped out some gears. The shop wanted 1174.10$ for labor and parts. (no thank you I would just go to a zf) Anyways I found a 4wd version of the m5r2 for 300 bucks and was wondering if I could just change the output cluster and stick it back under my 2wd. Any help would be great.
is your a slip yoke rear output
if so (now im not possitive on this but someone may be able to back me up) i think they all use the same cluster and rear outputs they just change the back part of the case from one that has a slip yoke seal in it to one that has a flat surface to mount a transfer case on. if this is the case then all you would have to do is take out about a dozen bolts and swap rear housings
Or if you wanted to do something interesting, you could get a transfer case as well, mount it up, and get the same driveshaft from the 4WD application to run back to your rear axle. You could have a 2WD low ^_^
Don't know what would be easier...more effective, etc. To change the output, dont you have to do more then unbolt and rebolt? I thought it required a partial rebuild and all of the rear portion.
