Wierd gauge problem, 81 Bronco

Ok, I have an 81 Bronco with a 460 and a c-6. Two days ago I went and fired my Bronco up in the morning, I was shocked to see my fuel gauge needle on E, I knew my truck gets bad gas mileage but I just put 5 gallons in before coming home, I figured someone siphoned the gas out so I headed to the gas station. When I hit the highway I then noticed that my tach wont go over 2200 and my speedometer wil stop when it his either 45 or 55. Both the tach and speedometer just will not go over a certian point and the fuel guage is reading very low. The ammeter work fine and my oil pressure and temp gauge are aftermarket so they are seperate and work. Anyone have any ideas on what is happening? If I cant find the problem and have to buy a fuel level gauge what kind should I get? I noticed there are different ohm levels to choose from, which one is correct? Also would I be able to disconnect all of the stock gauges if I were to put all aftermarket gauges in their places and not have any other electrical problems? Thanks for the help I could really use some right now.

You can test the fuel guage by taking the sending unit wire off, and touching it to a clean metal place on the frame, with the keyswitch in run. It should go to full. Then take the wire off the frame and let it hang touching nothing, and the guage should go to empty. If this test works, then you probably have a bad sending unit in the tank.

Your speedo is mechanical, so I don't know what the problem is there. I don't have any checks or tests for the tach either.
