Long story short, at 6:30 this morning I was more concerned with not backing into a car across the street then I was the telephone pole beside my truck. Started backing up, turning, and ended up coming up with it in my fender and by the bumper.
This is the way I got to drive around like till 9:30 when I got home. I had only peeked..and when I saw it I was like "Screw this...if it got caught and pulled out, it ought to be able to be hammered back in. So..one stout tree and a 3 mph ram, and voila.
Ok...so the bumper is slightly twisted, and my fender is still 'rounded' from the pole. I'll take the fender off later (when I'm not so tired) and the bumper...screw it. It's close enough lol. I just wanted to introduce you all to my take on "Redneck Bodywork." My tool was a 300 cubic inch inliner in combination with a tree. Not that my truck was a winner before, either.
Nice job man. If you wanted rednecky then you would have just left it the way it was smashed. I can tell you aren't a real redneck cause us here rednecks go by the "if it ain't broke don't fix it!" Ah he he, hoy there. Want a redneck body filler idea? Mix up some sawdust from a tree you chopped down with elmers glue into a paste. Smooth it on. Don't bother sanding, just paint with an old rattle can that doesn't match the color of your truck.
Yeah...Molly had a tendancy to crawl up the drivers side of my truck while I was working on the transmission cover, and she'd get in a few licks before I'd reach up and be like "Noooo" and she'd just sit for a few minutes before trying again. She's effectively (affectionately) my dog. I'm the one she always comes to and all. Best thing is? She hunts her own food, sleeps outside, everything. The perfect no-maintenance woman!
I hope nobody got offended to my little joke with the "redneck" part. Just yesterday we all had a laugh at fixing a *smashed in* bumper by chaining it to a tree and hitting reverse.
I couldn't just leave it as it was...It's one thing to have ugly paint - I can blame that on age. But fubar'd bumper like that's just bad. Plus..it only cost me like 2 cents in gas to fix it! Can't beat that labor rate. If only it wasn't a bit twisted..but..that'd be WAY too much work to fix. Have to find a way to pull it down.
I don't really feel like messing with the fender yet. Any recommendations on how I should go about trying to smooth out the pole's imprint? ^_^ I was figuring a rather heavy sledgehammer on the backside till its mostly out...then a small peen hammer or something to "smooth" it out as best I can. It'll still look bad, and you'll be able to see the impact site...at least until I get around to paint. Wanna see why she needs paint?
Get one of those "miracle waxes" that you see on TV! You know the ones, where they are in a junkyard and make an old car look brand new just by wiping it off or how about where they scratch the hood on a brand new Corvette and just wiped the scratches away!
My truck's too ugly to love, but not ugly enough for MTV's pimp my ride. Course...I wouldn't let them try to lower my truck..so..that'd not go very well.
Yeah, Pimp My Ride probably would do somethin like lower a truck. How stupid. Another reason why I don't like Chebies. I mean who wants to drive a truck that's smaller and lower than anybody elses? Speaking of Chebies, anyone see the TLC Overhaul show with the Cheby that they added a lift too? If they could lift a Cheby, I bet they'd find a way to lift your Ford and make it look cool. They did an awesome job on that truck they did for that kid. Lucky kid.
Many years ago I had a bent front bumper and being the plumber I am, I used a 24in pipe wrench to bend it back into shape. I put a piece of wood between the chrome and the jaw of the wrench and out it came. Couldn't tell it was ever touched. Also I KNOW a chain and tree will work miracles sometimes. also copper pipe makes good splices in heater and radiator hoses. Redneck? Nawww, Just thrifty.
My girlfriend actually did the same thing to her Tempo pulling out of her driveway last week. She was watching for the parked car behind her while not looking at the telephone poll to her front left.
A friend of mine did the same thing in his Ranger, but he really smashed it. He got the front fender, door and broke the window. His dad has a body shop, so he got lucky there, but we never let him forget about it. Remember the time....
