Mustang, you've got to love that time back. I haven't been lifting since before I went to California (about 3 months no lifting) and I've noticed a gradual reduction. My friend Allison left about a year ago for college, and during that year I had lost 50 pounds (and over the last 3 months I've put on about 10 agian hehe) net weight, but had seriously buffed up. Couldn't believe the difference.

I've never done a chest measurment, but I'm sure its decent. I've got large pecs, and wide lats that would help extend the measure around the back. I'm about middle of the pack here on FTE evidently, alot of haus's here! My maximum bench press was 275, maximum curl 135, squat was 260 (I just can't control myself/balance), deadlift 460, Pulldown 175x10 (wow). Not terrific, but not bad either. I'm 5'11 (never did get that extra inch...) and currently weighing in at 210. Biggest I've measured my biceps was 17.4" cold one EARLY morning at an AP Biology lab prep. I was bored...

Mustang, just be careful. Your body has just taken so well to RECONDITIONING currently. When you stop lifting, that muscle doesn't go away...it just 'detunes' itself is the best way to describe it. When you begin lifting again, the muscle learns to contract as hard as it did before, and reacts quite positively to the stress. Just don't stop when that rapid improvement stops. I need to start lifting again...but the closest GOOD weight room is an hour away...and with my truck I can't afford to pay 8 gallons of gas round trip just to lift.

Recommendation in regards to the chest for weight lifters...don't use JUST bench press for chest workouts. I've got a nice bench press, and my decline is even higher, but I've never been into incline or doing any other chest movements - so I haven't got good muscle build where those target. A chest excercise is a chest excercise. However..different ones target different parts, and stimulate the most growth there. Bench hits the middle, incline hits the top, decline the bottom. The way you hold the bar effects the side to side point of muscle stimulation (as well as how much your triceps play into it as well, usually. Just a hint.

And there is NOTHING wrong with lifting for vanity. My ankles prevented me from playing football (arthritis), so only other reason was to look good for my girlfriend. ^_^ Even though she doesn't mind chunky, I do. Only time vanity gets in the way, is when you spend more time looking in the mirror in the weight room then you do actually lifting.

I envy you guys. In high school I was on a strict workout routine for the entire football season (wide reciever). I got much stronger and I looked cut, but I never put on any bulk. I still work out, but it's not terribly often. Just to keep in shape.

years ago when i was still working out i had a 52 inch chest 18 inch guns and was starting to really develop my six pack. now after 14 years of driving a truck my chest has went to my waist ( although starting to lose it now) my guns have long since been reduced to pea shooters and my six pack has turned into a 2 liter of diet coke.

15 inch arms are not that big for someone your age and certainly not enough to overcome a big violent drunk unless you have a lot of training. If you were a MP, you would learn 5 of you to 1 of them are good odds.

If you want to be a bouncer then you better be well versed in martial arts because even drunk someone that has had a few years training can whip you.

Plus, big drunk jocks that like pain will not feel much unless you know how to hit them (who are customers) so I would say take judo. Because a lot of it will be up close and personal in a confined space or where someone might grab you from behind.

A few violent throws to the floor will take the wind out of a drunk, they are not seriously hurt, and you lessen the chance of picking up AIDS from a cut.

Someone you throw to the floor is less likely to hold a grudge when they sober up then someone you knocked a tooth out, broke a joint, or damaged an eye. Something to think about.

6'1" tall, 245lbs, 49" chest, 18" bicep, 18"neck. Don't know what I press or curl just situps and pushups for me. When I was playing football and lifting I concentrated mostly on legs. I played offensive line and that was the most important. I miss the days when I could hack 700 lbs.

Please, take it from me,you dont want to be a bouncer.I know,I did it for a few years when I was younger. In order to be good at it,you have to have a certain amount of bloodlust.I have seen fellow bouncers with a body like Arnold get attacked after closing by some punk and six of his friends. They beat him into a coma, why?Because he made said punk leave the bar for being a moron with a big mouth.I really believe had I not walked out the door with a bat in my hand, they would have killed him.For WHAT?A lousey paycheck?I had met some beautiful women during that time, and dated quite a few,but the minute they see you in action when that bloodlust surfaces they become afraid of you.The sad thing is,I have never hit a woman, even a drunken wench who kicked me in the(cup protected area)By the way I recommend a cup to anybody who wants to try being a bouncer.Back then I loved to fight so it was a good job for me.Things were ok until one sunday right after we opened a guy who I had fought a week before walked in,he looked like a monster, his eyes were almost swelled shut, his jaw was wired shut, his nose was broken, and his arm was broken. He came in to tell me he was sorry to have started it.My gut turned into knots,I could not believe I had hurt this guy so badly.Again, for what?A lousey paycheck? To be cool in front of all the babes who loose all interest in you when they see you turn into an animal?I quit that job two days later,my concience(sp)forced me to.I look back now in shame at all the noses, jaws, arms that I broke just so some clown could make money selling these same people the booze that caused them to do things they normally would not do.Most people look at a bouncer and think he has a gravy job.Wrong! Are you ready to get into 4 or 5 fights a night, sometimes with more than one guy?A bar atmosphere is not like fighting in a ring.People will tell you to take karate, judo,or whatever.I say yeah right!I watched a fellow bouncer who was an instructor get pummeled, why? No bloodlust. And if you are wondering why I didnt help him, there were three of us and a dozen of them.It was kind of funny in a way,I had a guy in a headlock with each arm, another in a leglock around his neck and all of us were on a fourth guy pinning him to the floor when the cops finally showed up.After they broke it up a cop walked up to me and asked,How come you are the only one not bleeding?I said, because I know enough to use the little guys for padding! So,like I said, develope your body, get that body the girls drool over, but dont waste it in some bar protecting somebody elses profits!

Or you could be like the bouncer they had at the chicken ranch for a while- mean black woman with a 12 gauge sawed off. Back to topic, what are some of the workouts y'all do to increse chest size? Benchpress is a given so.

I do several exercises to work my chest. If you're really interested in learning how to lift the correct way, I highly...highly....yes..very highly suggest "The encyclopdia of modern bodybuilding" by Arnold. It has a lot about body building in it, but it teaches you how to lift weights the right way and the most effective ways to train, even if you're not after being a bodybuilder. It is also separated so you can skip the info you don't want to learn.

I see a lot of people at the gym not working out correctly, and over the last 2 months of my workouts other people have noticed how quickly I grew (my mom thought I was on steroids). I believe it is because of proper workouts, lots of hard work, proper eatting habits, and I work very hard at lifting correctly.

For my chest exercises, I do the Bench press, incline bench. Than I work with dumbells and do chest presses, incline presses, decline presses, flys. Than on a cable machine I do incline flys and chest pulls. I will also do dips (great exercise), and a couple cable tricept exercises. I then do some ab work and if I have the energy/time I'll do a quick 1/2 hr jog. Cardio is extremely important with lifting weights, it helps your body deliver more oxygen to the muscles so you can perform more work (bigger growth). Another important tip is to really push yourself to get those last couple reps out of a set. You will see the most growth out of those last couple reps when your muscles are 100% exhausted. Sometimes I will do like 225 on the bench 2-3 times, shed down to 185, 135, 95...without a break inbetween sets (just do as many as you can with each set). This is a great method. I have learned everything I know from Arnold's book, it has completely changed my life.

On the chest presses with dumbells, after about 3 weeks of working out I was working with about 40-45 lb dumbells if I did the presses as my first exercise of the day. A month and 1/2 later, I can work with 80-90 lb dumbells even after I've already done 6-7 chest exercises. My cardio system has improved to help deliver the energy my body needs through a 3 hour workout like mine has become. I have almost as much energy on my 10th exercise that I do on my 1st...if you do it right...you'd be amazed at what you could achieve.
