Sony Digital Handycam

I have a Sony Digital Handycam that quit working the other day. When you turn it on it beeps and give the code C:31:23 flashes on the screen. Does anyone have any ideas? I am starting to look for a new one because I can probably buy a new one cheaper than getting this one repaired.

error codes c:31:_ _ or c:32:_ _ a malfunction that you can service has occurred:1)remove the cassette and insert it again, then operate camcorder. 2)disconnect the power cord of the a/c power adaptor or remove the battery pack. after reconnecting the power source, operate the camcorder.

Check the button battery too, may be losing your memory.

Thanks for the input, I pulled the tape and battery this a.m. and will put it back together when I get home from work. I just replaced the battery about four months ago with the extended use.
