I purchased a seat cover for my 04 STX but I cant figure out how to remove the headrests to install said cover.
Unfortunately the only alternative I can think of is to cut the cover to slip over the headrests.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
I wouldn't think the headrests would be that much of a problem. I thought the seat covers are tailored with an area that would cover the headrests-maybe some are and some aren't. I'm more interested in how you are going to cope with the seatbelt which really needs an opening in the side of the seatcover ?
I believe there is a button on the plastic piece the metal rod of the head rest goes into. You have to press this button in when moving the head rest down. Hold it in with the head rest in the UP most position and push the head rest up, it should come the rest of the way out.
ATC is right. You'll see on the base of one post the button to push to raise and lower the headrest. It's the other post base that has the flush button you have to push in to remove it. Good luck getting that seat cover down behind the rear seat without getting the wrenches out to remove the seat. That's if you are talking about the rear seat?
Thanks for replying but I've tried holding the button in and pulling the headrest up and out,It feels to me like there is a "catch" stopping headrest from coming out.I dont see how to release this "catch".And I am talking about front seat.
The catch with the thumb button isn't the one that releases the rods. It's the other one and the button is recessed into the side of the black base. You have to use the tip of your finger to push it in.
Thanks again Dunk I didnt see the recessed button,It worked perfectly.Gonna post some newer pics of the truck and seat covers hopefully later today. Thanks everyone for the replies.
Yeah, the one side has a thumb latch that controls the height to want the head rest. The other side has the final lock that releases it, but unless you look close you can't see it.
Seat cover's would just have to be covered the dog anyway. I went with a queen sized quilt(tan) and pulled the head rests. I cut holes through the quilt to fit the head rest bars and use them to keep the quilt up the back rest and in place. The queen size quilt protects the leather from the dogs(the meathead Barnacle) nails and it's big enough to cover the floor in the back seat area. It's also wide enough to stuff under the plastic kick molding along the floor in front of the doors. Mine is a Lariat Scab and the quilt is long enough to cover the rug almost to the front edge of the front seats so I've got the rug protected from dog hair. He's a Chesapeake Bay Ret...and I'll put him up against anyone who thinks they have dog that will out shed him..
It's kind of joke wasting time to protect that little more than tissue paper rug they put in these 04's, but I'm giving it a shot. The quilt is easy enough to remove and throw in the washer so it should work out ok. Now I'm down to just the meathead slobber problem and that's easy enough to take care of....
They look real nice, I like the way they look, How do they Feel ?? do you think they will holdup ?? If yes Im gona order a pair for my Lariat. Thanks for posting some pics -looking good-
They feel good,a little rough. But seem to be very good quality.I wanted to keep seats new looking so I figured seat covers were the way to go.I believe they will hold up well.
