Last I heard Cummins has an exclusive deal with DCX and Ford is presently developing the next gen diesel themselves. But there is a company, I believe in Kansas, that will put a new cummins in a new super duty for the price of the new truck, cummins powertrain and labor to install w/ conversion kit to the sum of $12,000-$15,000 over the price of the new truck.
That rumor is simply that, rumor. Cummins is under Contract with DC and Ford is under contract with International.
I thought that contract was coming close to an end. I member reading that Ford put out bids for a 6 cycle diesel, and International didn't get it, something about CAT or Detroit Diesel if I remember correctly.
The dealer I dropped my F250 (gasser) off at yesterday for warranty work, told me he has recieved notice from Ford to select two techs to send for training in March 05, to learn the CAT 31 series I6.
fn250, there is already a V6 PSD. It's being used in the Ford LCF trucks right now. I'm sure when low sulphur diesel is available they'll be able to use it in the F150 and Expedition.
hang10, Cat does not make an engine that would fit in a Super Duty. Ford does offer the Cat in the F650/750. Perhaps that was the reason they were sending techs for training.
Most, if not all , of articles I have read are in regard to the F-150s, Expeditions etc for the 6 cyl diesel. From what I gathered the diesel focus will be there.
It wasn't that long ago that Ford bailed on having the diesel 6 cyl ready for an F-150 application by mid '05 model year. I think they will have to do something about emisions and MPG before thatey will be ready to mass produce.
Half ton buyers will not spend the extra $$$ for a diesel if they cannot anticipate a significant increase in MPG compared to their gasser. FYI: I got 13.5 MPG on both my 2000 & 2002 4x4 Supercab 5.4 gassers. I'm getting 12.5 with the Beast (although my last fill up indicates a slight increase to possibly 13.0 since pulling the plug, so to speak).
Anyways, I don't see movement away from the 6.0 in the F-250for a while....IMO.

I looked at a F650 SupperCrewzer and I had a nice little Kitty under the hood.
the rumor I heard was the Ford was going to start putting the new Cummins motor in their trucks, and that Dodge was going to start putting new Cat motors in their trucks.
