Still here. I have not had the light code since cleaning the MAF sensor and checking the hoses etc. I am watching the postings just in case. Thanks for the help on this one.

I have the same problem w/ my 2001 Sport Trac. P0171 Bank One... fuel too lean. My problem started when I added fuel injector cleaner without the right amount of gas in the tank and fried my O2 sensors ($125 mistake). Replaced both sensors, reset the check engine light and everythig seemed fine for about a day 1/2. Now P0171 has come back. Any thoughts on what it might be? Will clean the MAF as soon as I can find it. Oh yeah, the A/C keeps "cycling" and seems to pull my RPM's down. Probably just low on coolant, but could it be related?

Follow up to the P171 Code Sport Trak

After changing out oxygen sensors, and a multitude of other things (cleaning the MAF sensor, air filters, etc), it turned out to be a leaking head manifold gasket - i think lower. Truck has 60k miles on it which seems a little early.

F2504by497 -

You saved me about thirty bucks with the spark plug boot elbow idea. Works great - thicker rubber, and it will stand up better to the heat.

Thanks,

Dan

Question too lean on both bank 1 and 2?

I have both codes p0171 and 0174. It means lean on bank 1 (right side) and lean on bank 2 (left side). Let me think.....Is it getting too much air from the air to fuel ratio? and is it the fuel filter? on my 2002, V6, F150. The mileage reads over 88,000.

VERY common code combination. Too much unmetered air, i.e. vacuum leak post-MAF.
