360 Fuel pressure

Just installed a feul pressure gauge between the pump and carb. At idle it jumps between 8 and 9 psi, at about 2000 rpm it jumps between 9 and 14 real fast. this is a stock fuel pump replaced about 8,000 miles ago is the pump bad or is it somethin else? what should pressure be at?

Wow! Should be around 6 - 8 psi.

Typically with a carb you want about 6-8lbs fuel pressure. Too much fuel pressure and it can blow the float needle open making the float level too high and causing it to run rich. You can get a regulator here.
