changing the timing

I'm not sure if I have the right forum category here.. but anyway.

I've converted my 1982 5l V8 Econoline to LPG and want to advance the ignition .. I don't have a strobe but have been reading around it can be done by ear anyway.

Now you may say that if I don't know what I'm doing then I shouldn't try it but I've got the dizzy cap off and now I'm stuck... I was expecting some kind of bolts I can loosen so i can rotate it .. but I can't see any.
Am I blind or is it done differently than what I'm expecting?

To adjust the initial timing loosen the 1/2" bolt on the base of the distributor where it goes into the block and rotate the whole distributor clockwise to advance the base timing.
Go here http://www.fordmuscle.com/archives/2...ng/index.shtml for more information on your timing

cheers.... managed to find it with the aid of my digital cam.
moved it forward a bit and seems to rev fine... I'll take it out for a test drive in a bit (it's a bugger to get in and out of my gate so only like to do it when it's right!)
how obvious is pinging if it's advanced too far?
