I have a 94 ford shortbox flareside with a NON Mass Air fow system with a 5.8l auto. It has a limited slip with 3:50 gears. I would like to know how to get as mush hp out of it as i can, i can even go to a standard trans, (i have a cab and computer) does anyone have any suggestions on how i can try and get one over on these crappy imports, or even give them a run for there money?
i will rebuild my engine and tranny, as well as the rear end. I want to go to a 4 link coil over, but not sure about air bags or still springs. Thanx
if you have the money anything is possible LOL
i have been researching some performance upgrades for my 5.8 efi also but like i said anything is possible how much do u want to spend in time and money?
if you dont want to go too expensive you can start off simple and work your way up
K&N airfilter and wrap the intake hoses with some kinda heat reflecting insulation
exhaust is a big deal on 5.8s it seems like you can go as deep in ur wallet as u like here with headers high flow cats (be sure not to lower back pressure so much that u loose torque)
the manual tranny will give you a very good boost
larger throttle body is a common upgrade but it starts to get pricey from here on out
i havent heard much on performance intake manifolds but again if u got the money to spend its an option
performance computer chip
if ur really gettin picky about small power boosts you can use better ignition and lower resistance spark plug wires
i think that covers what you can do with a speed density intake ... lol you can always go to MAF then you can get to the big stuff new cam, etc
PS im not pickin at ya but if you want a race car buy something a little more areodynamic LOL the best rice burners will still eat u up even with a supercharger, a fiberglass or carbon fiber body, and the best tranny money can buy
you can upgrade the heads, comp cam 35-255-5, edelbrock truck efi intake, good headers with single 3" exhaust, 58 or 61mm bbk throttlebody but thats were you must stop. stroking the motor is the next step from there but requires the maf conversion for reliability same goes if you want to run a supercharger. swapping your gears to 4.10's would also give you a big gain so to speak.
late
it has a 3 inch exhaust and i have MSD wires, and a K&N air filter, but i want somethin to give the imports a run for there money, (im a ford boy, but the mustang is WAY out done for my likings, does any one have a diffrent vehicle in mind then?
5 liter has alot more easy mods because the mustang uses it i dont know what cars use but there is a HO version of the 302
but the 300 6-cylinder isnt a bad engine you can get one of those turbod fairly easily
