Diesel trucks - history

I would appreciate some help in tracking down information about Ford's use of diesel engines over the past 20-30 years, specifically which older models were available with diesel engines. I am most interested in late 1970s / early 1980s trucks.

Thanks to anyone who can point me in the right direction.

1982 was the first year for a diesel engine in a Ford pickup. The engine was a naturally aspirated 6.9L and it was built by International.

Thanks for the info. Do you know if certain models come standard with diesel engines? What do you know about later model diesel trucks?

In the 3/4 and 1 ton size trucks.
1983 to 1987 had the NA 6.9 IDI
1988 to 1994 had the NA 7.3 IDI
1993 and 1994 also had the turbo 7.3 IDI
1994 the Power Stroke 7.3 DI turbo was introduced and produced until 2002 I believe.
Then they switched to the 6.0 Power Stroke.

Diesels have always been an option since they were introduced.

Ford also used several different manufacturers diesels in their larger trucks since before 1960.

Early Ford Diesels

My Uncle dropped a 6.0 liter 6 cylinder Ford Industrial diesel from England in his truck back in 1974. Turbo charged and aftercooled it. The truck probably has about 2 million clicks on it now, puts out about 350 hp. Still going strong. That truck will outlive him thats for sure, he is 65 now.

The 6.0 liter is a tight in the 74 F250 but it fit (3/4") to the firewall but it fit and its a beauty, Turbo is on the left side.
