I'm looking for a fuel pump for my '64 f100 223 engine. The problem I'm having is that most of the new fuel pumps available have the hinge pin (that's the pin the the arm pivots on) exposed, and as a result it leaks oil. I can even take a punch and push the pin out with my hand! I've had two...both leaked oil, and the first one simply failed to operate after about 5,000 miles.
Any ideas where I can find a better new pump or a remanufactured one?
Joe,
I've gotta '63 F100 with a 223 that had the same problem.
I've used several different fuel pumps over the years and they all leak oil to some degree. Some much worse than others. Sure keeps that side of the block messy.
If you've ever had the pan off or torn down your engine, there is a rod journal on the crank that swings within a fraction of an inch of the fuel pump opening in the side of the block. I think that rod journal is bathing the pump opening with oil everytime the crank comes around.
I considered fabricating a metal baffle to protect the pump while I had the engine torn down, but never tried it.
My solution was to install a pump block off plate on the block and install an electric pump underneath the truck near the gas tank.
What's the trick for getting the hole in the diaphram stem to engage the pump lever hook? Having some trouble figuring it out, lol. I didn't rebuild the pump, just disassembled it to clean deposits and check the diaphram, so don't really have a good mental picture of the mechanism.

You might want to start a new thread since none of the guys you are asking have been on here for decades.
Someone on here may have had one apart. Most people just keep buying new ones until they find one that works.
