thanks in advance for whatever help you can give me. My brake light came on a month or so ago. my pads and shoes seem to be fine, but my pedal keeps going lower and lower to the floor. Usually when this happens i can just replace my shoes and everything will work fine. Just seems i should be able to get more use out of my shoes though. The pad on the shoes is half as thick as new shoes.
thanks
Have you checked the brake fluid? After that, I'd make sure the self adjusters in the rear brakes are doing their job and that the rear brakes are in fact properly adjusted. Finally, I'd suspect a failing master cylinder.
If your pedal is getting softer and softer (I.E. closer to the floor), maybe you should bleed the brake lines. Wearing brake pads wouldn't make a noticable difference in how far the pedal goes since they wear only fractions of an inch. Also, what brake light is comming on? There aren't to many warning lights on rangers, and the only one i've ever seen regarding brakes is for the parking brake.
thanks again for the help.
I am an idiot. I cant believe I checked the brake fluid last. heh
Pulled off rear tires and adjusted brakes. checked front brakes, then check fluid and found it was low.
Everything is working fine now.
doh!!
take care and thanks again.
Do have another question you can maybe help me with though. this one will be kind of hard to explain. there is quite a bit of play in rear tires when off the ground. maybe 10% or a little more. when driving, slowly, I can take foot off gas, then give it gas again and it will make a clanging noise in rear end. it will sound like rear end is about to fall apart. i can hear a slight metallic sound. sorta like a piece of loose metal in bearings when just driving. It seems like I shouldnt be able to move the tires as much as i can when in the air. Dont know if this explains it well enough, but let me know if you got any clues. I took it to Ford about a year ago, and they told me nothing was wrong with rear end, but another mechanic told me it was. any ideas?
