Hey i am having a problem with my truck and i dont know how to address it or even what it is. I have a 1993 ford f-150, the engine only has 120,000 miles on it. The problem i am having is when i step on the gas when the truck is warm and i am driving, it produces a huge cloud of smoke that i believe smells like oil, and it stops making the cloud of smoke when i let off the gas. Now what would make my truck do this. Yes it does have a minor oil leak but i have no clue why it would pump out soo much smoke!
White with a hint of blue and pretty stinky: ATF, sucking through a vacuum modulator. (if so equipped)
Clouds and clouds of white and blue: Blown turbo shaft seal....looks like a WWI smoke screen being laid down by a des******.
Clouds and clouds of black smoke: Your truck is on fire, call the insurance guy.
Clouds and clouds of stinky white smoke: You're drunk and doing a burnout against the wall of the house/garage/another car.
What color did you say the smoke was?
i would say its the one thats white with a hint of blue and really stinky.. but what i am wondering is why it only puffs out the smoke when i really step on the gas. ATF meaning automatic transmission fluid right? Becuase i check that regularly and it seems to be consistantly full. Wow i feel stupid about this. Also when i take a look underneath the truck it seems to be oil all over the place, and the tailgate shows some signs of oil also so i am just confused now. I kno my rear main seal is leaking, would that do this?
Sounds like you have some internal engine damage of some sort, either blown rings or some valve issues.
Most likely your engine is not running rich. It sounds like you're in need of taking this truck to a mechanic for an engine check.
120k miles is a fair amount of miles for a heavy truck like ours...but its a little premature...it's sort of difficult for us to diagnose from here...I suggest taking it to a shop.
My truck spit the oil pan gasket out the right side near the rear of the pan. When I mashed on the gas, the oil would slosh back and spill out onto the exhaust. Made a lot of smoke when I punched it. but when sitting still or driving slow it didn't leak, therefore no smoke. Just something to check.
