I just put an aftermarket mechanical oil pressure gauge on my 86 300 I6. I used a piece of 1" long 3/4 brass tubing from the block. I put a brass "T" on the end of the tubing and put the factory sender and new oil line to the gauge on that. I put the "T" on so that the factory sender sticks straight out from the end, and the oil line comes off of the side of the "T". Works great, I've done a few oil gauges that way. My 74 F100 didn't have factory gauges, on the "T" I put a oil light sender with the pressure gauge sender. I also did the same thing on my wifes 87 T-Bird, she wanted to keep the oil light with the gauge I added. Bought the brass pieces from Lowes.

I've done this, too, but let me add a tip. I had lots of oil leaks with the brass fittings. Brass is supposed to be self-sealing - yeah right! I bought a tube of red threadlocker and put it all back together. No more leaks.

I use teflon tape, and never had a problem. Always use some sort of sealer before you put it together.
