now getting 19.6 mpg mixed driving on 04 stx. changes made were 40 psi in tires and amsoil synthetic 5w20. truck now has 10100 miles and only problem i've had is keepin it clean.
Camille Marquis: FYI all of the 04 STX trucks have a 4.6L V8 in them.
bookwalter04STX: describe you truck more, I would like to know what to expect from mine on typical sriving. I filled up at a half of a tank yesterday and got 15.xx mpg. It was a bad tank to figure on though, thre was a lot of neighbor visting/showing, letting friends drive, dle speeds, etc. I am thinking I'll get a few mpg's more but I want to know more info. on your truck so I amy know what to expect. 40 psi in the tires is going to wear them quickly and mostly in the center and will give a bumpier ride in case you didn't know.
I'm getting a routine 18-19 MPG on the highway from my STX 4x4 with a 4.6L. I didn't want to pay the extra bucks for the 5.4L...which is pretty readily avaliable on the STX here in MD...
My trucks has 15K on it and I've spent $45.00 on an Air Hog air filter (anyone know where to pick up the "cleaning kits"). I'm also using Castrol 5W-20 oil. Tire pressure is at manufactures recommended PSI
STX's here in Texas have the 5.4 as well, actually most of them. I was wondering though, the 4.6 and 5.4 EPA est. says that they both should get the same milage. Anyone experienced both?
previous mileage was around 16 mpg. its a 4x4 with no other mods except synthetic oil from amsoil. it has 10256 miles on it. have had absolutely no trouble at all with truck. this is the 3rd tank since changes(tire press and oil) best of which was 21 mpg in a 6 day work week with my turn to drive 78 miles a day with cruise set at 69 mph with 40 psi in tires. yes i know how air pressure works on tires but at 37 psi hot i was low in centers, 43 was to much, 41 was ok but ride was rougher. 40 psi hot has good tire wear and ride quality is still good for highway use. i use 87 octane gas from flying j.
