OK.....I bought a super clean '88 Bronco (fullsize) the other day, has a bad engine, though, definitely needs a new one. It has a 302 in there, I know where some deals are on a 5.8 and a 302HO. I know both will bolt right up, but I've heard I might run into probs w/ the wiring, etc.....any help or suggestions?? I'd like to put that 5.8 EFI in there, really, how hard is it to do?? TIA
The 302HO of similar years wires up just like your existing 302, so of the choices you presented thats probably the easiest swap.
Me, I'd rather swap in the 5.8L, using the wiring harness and ECM that comes with the motor, and just swap everything in as a complete unit, rather than pulling off all the injector, sensor, and solenoid connectors, and putting them back on the new engine.
Just the ECM would work with your existing harness. There are only a couple differences, and I don't think they will be a problem (between the 5.0 and the 5.8 computers).
