Econoline Engine Choices?

Hey Folks,

I just bought a '98 econoline without engine or tranny. (It had the V-6) I also have a '92 econoline with a fresh 302, but a really bad case of the rusty's. What kind of hurdles will i have to jump through to swap it all over?

Thanks in advance...

Depends on what state you are in. In California, you have to meet '98 regs in a '98, regardless of what year the motor is. And you have to pass at the pipe and visual.

'92 is pre-OBD. '98 should be OBD II.

I'd look for a wadded up '98 or later as a donor for a 5.4 and do some horse trading on the '92 motor--mainly because I'm in CA and have to play by their rules.

If you're really as timid as I am, you'll look for a wadded up '98 with a V6 so the parts man won't get rich on the swap.

I'm in Canada, so the only thing they look for is a catalytic converter. (so far )

The other thing is that I know this 302 is solid, and the tranny too. The mechanical part of the swap doesn't bother me much, just the wiring, etc.
