Trapped Inside My Explorer
I have a 91 Explorer XLT and my driver door will not open from the inside. It does not seem to be catching on whatever it catches on and I have to open the door from the outside. I am not sure if a part has broken or not and i dont want to go and rip apart my whole door until i know what the problem is. Has anyone experienced this problem or know how to fix the handles because i am not an expert on anything to do with cars and it is getting annoying to have to roll the window down all the time. Any help will be greatly appreciated. THanks

I had a similar problem with a rear door on one of my Explorer's. Turns out the inside plastic handle mechanism had broken. It's a pretty simple mechanism but the stress over time can cause them to break. As I remember the part was about $10 from the dealer. You need to take the door panel off, remove a lever and clip, attach the lever and reinstall the clip. All in all about a 15 minute job, maybe a little longer since you will be working on the driver's door and mine was a rear door with less things attached to it. The job requires no special tools.
