Alarm

I set of the alarm in my recently purchased 97 V8 Explorer while trying to locate the washer relay. I had to disconnect the battery cable to silence it. I have had a problem with the alarm going off occasionally when entering the vehicle, but it is disarmed when I put the key in, as it is supposed to. However, with my current problem, I can't reconnect the cable without the alarm going off or start it either! Help!

I did get past my problem - I unplugged the relays from the box under the dash, plugged them back in and it reset the alarm. I did this after unplugging the horn relay and hooking the battery cable back up. I expect I will continue to have the alarm go off occasionaly when entering the vehicle as it has previously. I would welcome comments on what might cure this.
