Deus Ex is a different kind of game, you have to use stelth rather than just shoot at everything. I think pressing F1 gives you a screen that you use to control the things you carry you have to move things around to get it right.
You earn skill points that you use to upgrade your skills, I always upgrade shooting skills first, then health and hacking.
Look for AUGs and AUG upgrades, they allow you to see thru walls and run faster.
You should think like a spy, sneak around and kill things. Write down ATM codes and passwords, you'll need them later. There's lots of hidden things to find, almost everything has a purpose.
I've been playing PC games since doom, and deus ex is well worth the time to figure out. I used a borrowed CD with no manual so it was a bit tough at first.
search around for a 'walkthru' on the net, but I'd toss it as soon as you learn the basics, walkthru's tend to ruin the fun of the game.
Actually I have the old Sega and PS. GranTurismo I and II are great when you can't sleep at night. I also love to play Crash Team Racing with my son. We have a blast and often get yelled at by the boss for staying up too late.
