Well, i already have the cats gutted. I'm still not satisfied with the sound. Glass packs are very cheap so i figured why not? I used to have a 4x4 with a 454 (chevy) and it sounded nice with the glass packs. And i want my bronc to sound like that.
i put on a glass pack and it hardly did anything so i put on a 3'' bassani cat back on it with the glass pack and it started to have a good sound when i stomped on it
i totally agree, for the best deep, throaty, race motor sound either flow master or dyna max race magnums really sound awsome.......it does on my 302, i have FM w/ 3" all the way out the back
Hey, I'm a big Flowmaster fan, but...for great, deep exhaust sound you just can't beat glass packs, and if you want the best sounding ones, find some Smittys. They are can shaped rather than bullet shaped, but have ALWAYS been the best sounding mufflers there are! They blow out, though, and some jusristictions bannned straight through designs years back, leading first to Turbo mufflers then the flowmaster crowd. although big block truck mufflers probably flow more (bigger chambers). I don't run glass packs anymore-too noisy inside the cab- but you can't beat thay sound! Flowmasters, Dynomax sound great, but its a different sound. Spoken by an old hot rodder been at it since the mid-50's. (Of couse I still think a flathead Merc with a pair of Smittys sounded better than anything has since!!) The reason Glass packs got a bad rap is so many folks put Cherry Bombs on the headers (how easy could it get!), with no tail pipes, which made a harsher sounding (than Smittys) mufflers sound even harsher. I personally attribute the increase in stereo power systems to the inability to here Inna Gadda DA Vidda over the drone of those Cheery Bombs cruising down the highway! Y'know, straight pipes were always the "Outlaws" pipe of choice!! I haven't looked recently, but Speedway Motors in Lincoln, Nebraska used to carry Smittys still!
I used to run Cherry Bombs simply because they were CHEAP. $5 or so at Pepboys 30 years ago. On a stock single exhaust they sounded better than stock without getting the law too interested.
