Anybody else having loss of power or sputterin problems when acclerating or taking off. I mean everything is running great...then it just starts out of the blew no power like trash in the fuel line of ole' farm tractor. As of right now they don't have a flash to fix it.
Got rid of (2) 03's with numerous problems to long to list. Even went through dispute settlement board.....what a complete waste of time...I figure it has cost me about $7000 the last two years to run these trucks.
So, I gave Ford another chance......I ordered this 04' truck direct to spec...it has 5000 miles on it now and starts giving me crap. I mean guys these trucks are running on the hwy occasionally pulling a #3000lb load. In this 04' seen fuel economy go way down from the last two 6.0 I had.
What would you guys do as I am on my last straw with these things? Can you say, class action lawsuit.
Explain more about the problem, please. Does it go away if you shut the truck off and turn it back on? I had that happen a few times on my 6.0 and it ended up being EGR valves and turbo actuators. But mine was strictly loss of power, no sputtering.
My 2004 has about 6000 miles on it now, first problems I encountered was yesterday, a couple of times it just lost all power but was still running, then it started to die! In about 3 miles it died about 15-20 times. I took it to the shop this morning, I'll post results when I get it back.
Rpharr,
I'd suggest getting it in to your dealer and have them take a look. Mine always ran well after they'd replace the above parts. But the sputtering thing is not familiar to me. Let us know what you find.
SBV45,
I have posted it. Do some searching. What difference does it make anyway?

Makes a big difference.….when it come to you and your knowledge base.
OK...I got my baby back from the shop, when I went to pick it up I was told that the dealership's computer was down so the service writer was unable to tell me what was wrong. They finally faxed the invoice to the house and I am unable to decifer most of it!
Maybe some of you guys will know what this means, I'll type out some of the items...

YEE-HAAA!!! I'm not alone. My truck started acting up on the drive home tonight. The drive to work was fine. 2134 mile drive to canada and back last week, no problems. Try to get home and the truck could'nt pull a greesed string out of a cat's backside.? Very Very slow off the line, Wont shift till close to red line. Gets to 3rd gear and it's off and running strong again? I would think if it's the EGR and/or turbo actuators it would do it all the time. not just in the first 2 gears? No sputtering thankfully. I did read somewere that after fuel filter replacement an "O" ring would fail and allow air into the system causing sputtering? Keep me posted on your fix, I'll do the same.

OK, I searched all your posts in the last year and all I get is that you decided to take the buyback and have not posted anything regarding what you might have replaced it with. So what did you replace your 03 Excursion 6.0 with?
I have the same problem with my 2004 6.O PSD. I picked it up from the shop that has been "working on it" and drove it no more the 5 miles and the trucks engine started sputtering/engine rpms surging.
Drove the truck down 5 miles to the next towns Ford Dealership to have them diagnose the problems since the other dealership could not find the problem, and luckly I spoke with the Manager of the Service Department. I explained the trucks problems and he said I could not leave the truck because Ford does not have a fix for this problem! Ford is very aware of the problem but is currently working on a fix. He said they would take my info and send it up to the Ford Hot line. The manager said he has 6 trucks that have come in and are experiencing the same exact problem. He said the 5 of the trucks, the customer has opted for the buy back or lemon law.
No Start or Constant Engine Misfire:
There are several things that can cause this symptom, including a failed FICM (fuel injector control module). In cases where the FICM is at fault the condition should be present at all engine temperatures, and codes P0611 or U0105 may be set. If codes P2614 or P2617 are stored the cause is more likely to be a wiring chaffing issue. The harness will need to be pushed and pulled to determine if the harness is shorting out. WDS should be used to verify the injectors can be commanded on (injector buzz test) and that the FICM is powering up (datalogger PIDS FICM_VPWR: ignition power; FICM_LPWR: FICM logic power from relay; FICM_MPWR: FICM output power to injectors--47-50 volts). If an injector does not click during the buzz test, a test light can be installed between the injector connector terminals 1 and 2 and checked for illumination when re-running the test.
