Demon Carb Fast Idle Adjust

Does anyone know how to adjust the fast idle on a 625 Road Demon with electric choke? I can see the fast idle adjust screw pointing down and to the rear of the carb between the vacuum secondary pod and the choke pod but there is no way that I can see to get even a small screwdriver or wrench in there to adjust the fast idle screw. HELP!

I've used a pair of miniature adjustable pliers. It's still not easy.

I am really struggling with the fast idle adjustment on my 625 cfm Road Demon. I can just barely get a 1/4" ignition wrench on to it, but there is barely enough room to turn it more than a quarter turn each time. A screw driver won't work as the angle of the screw is wrong. As a result, when I set the choke the engine just wants to idle normally and dies unless I keep giving it gas until it warms up and the electric choke opens. I would really appreciate it if anybody knows how to adjust the durn thing or has some tips ot tricks. Thanks.

By the wey, Demon customer service has been less than helpful. They say if I can't get a wrench on it, to remove the carb, adjust the screw and see if it works. Keep doing this until it is right. They were highly offended when I said that this was a very poor mechanical design.

Well, I finally was able to get the fast idle screw adjusted. Using a small 1/4" ignition wrench and standing at the FRONT of the car instead of off to the side, I was able to see the screw (using a small flashlight) and get the wrench on it to turn it. There was just enough room to turn it about 1/8th of a turn each time so I just turned it until it felt like it was getting tight. Of course, I later found out I had it too tight and the fast idle jumped up to almost 3000 rpm as soon as the choke started to open! So I loosened it back up a little (twice: first time brought it down to around 1800 rpm as the choke opened, the second time I will test in the morning when I go get gas). Also leaned the choke out a little as things were a little sooty on start up.

I attempted to adjust the idle mixture (first time with a four corner idle) and I think it is idleing too rich (brings tears to your eyes at stop lights!). So tonight I closed the mixture screws and opened them up 1.5 turns and marked each screw and carb so I have a point of reference. I will readjust them in the morning using a vacuum gauge in addition to a tach (only used a tach today).

BUT, she runs like a scalded cat! Very strong, no bogs. The secondaries come in a little late so I will get a set of springs and experiment with them (AFTER I get the idle mixture set correctly).

So I am a happy camper again. Between adjusting things today and putting my foot into it at every oppurtunity, I burned through almost an entire tank of gas! But man it felt good. Sunday is going to be a pretty day so my wife and I are going to take a little drive to the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains here in Virginia. Not quite ready to tackle the mountains themselves, yet.

Glad you got it fixed? It's not Demon's fault on the design. They just copied Holley's carb design and made a couple of changes to it.

I readusted the idle mix screws using both a tach and vacuum gauge. Idles much better now and no tears. Didn't make the trip I had planned for today as I spent too much time twiddling with the carb, but my wife and I did drive the Gal out for lunch in a closer small town. Ran great the entire trip, although I still have to twiddle with the fast idle a little. But at least I now know how to do it.
