Another Pegged Gauge problem
1996 Aerostar 4.0L 2WD Extended body with 113,000 miles (nicely broken in), auxiliary air. Temp Gauge pegged as far past H as possible, Oil Pressure Gauge the same, Voltage Gauge pegged at full discharge, gas gauge hasn't move since the problem started. The only idiot light that works at all is the AMP light, no Check Engine Light (which was on because of a low flow EGR condition), no Brake Light, no Rear ABS Light, no Door Ajar light. Turn signals work, and so do lights.
Pulled cluster and cleaned all the contacts. No change. Checked ground continuty from ground wires at each connector to dashboard was about .3 ohms. Plugged connectors back into cluster - no change. I may be assuming something here, but I can't imagine every sensor went bad (oil, temp, fuel, voltage), plus the idiot lights. This cluster doesn't have an IVR, it has something called a Instrument Cluster Gauge Amplifier.
I've got a digital multimeter, so I can't see any pulsing voltages (if there are supposed to be any on this cluster). The only readable voltages on any of the connectors are one 12 volt that goes to the 510 ohm resistor and the amp idiot light, and the appropriate turn signal connections when the turn signal is switched on.
Do I have a bad cluster? Any other suggestions? Thanks for your help.
