Hi, My 332 is not running right and moast the time not at all. i last had it running a month ago. then i went to start it the other day and it would bite then stall and keep doing that and when it dose start it only runs for about 15-20 sec and stalls but while its running it spits gas out the carb and pops out the carb. could my timming chain have jumped a tooth or could a tooth have broken off one of the gears? or could it be somthing else? it did run before so i dont know what happend.
Thanks
Dave
I doubet your timing jumped a tooth. This sounds like a carb issue. Check the fuel level in the float bowl. How old is the carb? What sort of vehcile is this 332 in? This little brother FE is very rare and most have never heard of it.
Try some ether spray (starter spray). If it runs good for a bit using that, then you probably have a carb issue. Let it sit for a while before trying this to avoid the potential carb issue (flooding).
well the carb is the original one but i put in a new carb kit, and it was working. could there be dirt or somthing in it? or somthing else? i cleaned it yesterday but might have missed somthing.
The engine is in my 59 edsel ranger 2dr ht.
Thanks
Dave
ok i have and put my new accelerator pump in and it started but i forgot to put the clip back in the throttle linkage and after itr started the arm fell off and i had no throttle. i dident realize it at the time i was just wondering why i had no throttle. it ran for about 1 min on idel(becuse my linkage) but is was running relly rouhf. then it stalled and i was back to where i started. It's a 2bbl holley carb.
any more seggestions?
Dave
check the rest of the ignition....clean and/or replace all the basics, wires, points, cap, rotor etc. Then fix the linkage, if you have not already. let it sit for a bit, try some starter spray. If it starts then work the throttle to see if you can get it to keep running (makes sure yo uhave good gas). See if it smooths out at slightly higher RPMs. If you can get it to run, try bumping up the timing a little (provided you are not getting kickback on the starter now).
hi
I have all new wires cap points condencer rotor coil (super stock coil) and spark plugs . the starter turns pretty slow even on a fully charged battery, i have been messing arond with the distributer some. the starter was rebuilt not to long ago but i think its going bad again.
dave
also the timming chain is tight in the direction the motor turns and the other side the chain will move close to a inch back and forth. is that bad enough to change?
I don't what the spec is for play, but that sounds loose to me. Since you've got it apart, you might invest in a new timing set (gears and chains). I run an Edelbrock true roller setup. part 7808, cost $53 at Summit.
Timing may be too far advanced? I accidentaly bumped the distributer over on my 360 some how once, when I put it back in the truck it would run like crap for 5 seconds or so and spit out the carb... I also had trouble with a defective rebuilt 2v carb which caused the same sort of thing, it'd run spit then die, if I gave it gas it'd spit out the carb real bad.
If the starter is bad, it will also draw too much juice away from the ignition to fire the plugs. Same thing will happen with bad wiring, grounds , etc.
