Yeah, I can't think of any reason it would not fit. So long as you have an FE motor. And we call the 332 an FE. Just make sure you don't have some other variety of FT or something completely different.

Anybody know of any difference in the 332 Crank or Cam that would keep this from working?

1 inch of play won't cause the symptoms you have. I think you may have some sticking valves for the popping and spitting. How old is the gas?

I wouldn't mess with the chain yet. The 332 uses the old thrust button instead of a plate along with the spacer behind the sprocket and a different cover.

BB,

I didn't mean to imply that it would fix his problem. But, that does sound a little loose. can you think of any reason a 332 would not use the same timing chain/gears?

I can't think of any right now (it's Monday morning though). Later timing sprockets (the upper one) have a built-in spacer so if you use one on an early engine, throw away the C-shaped spacer that went behind the origional sprocket. There was something about the length of the pin too between the early and late engines, I think the early pin was longer? Try the search, I remember talking about it before when I knew more.

ok when it's turning over it will turn normal then turn relly fast becuse its trying to start you can hear it fireing out the exhust then it will turn slow then turn relly fast trying to start. i retarded my distributer a bit, it helped a bit but still it wont fire up and run. could it be possable that half my plugs are dead? it has been flooded a number of times and mabie some of the plugs just arnt working as good as they should. the plugs where put in last fall.
thanks

have you checked to see if the rotor spins (or spins freely)? Maybe you sheared the gear pin and the rotor isn't spinning with the crank/cam. That might explain a sudden failure.

beyond that, start back at ground zero.

Get the motor at TDC, make sure the rotor points to number 1. make sure all the wires are in the right firing order. then check for spark. pull and clean all plugs.

If the plugs have been soaked from flooding, they won't fire. Pull all of them, clean them and put them back in. I'd try advancing the distributor ( turn it clockwise) to start it, sounds like you've maybe got it retarded too much. To see how much the chain stretch is affecting things, use a breaker bar and 15/16 socket on the crank damper bolt, remove the dist cap, and rotate the crank back and forth, if you can move the crank more than 1/8 turn before the dist rotor moves, you've got too much slack. !/4 turn is all that it moves between two cylinders firing in sequence.
