Had my 2004, 9/3 build, reflashed today due to rough idle condition at start up. Seems to have less power and the traditional diesel idle noise is in full bloom. What should I ask the dealer to do?
ASk him to slap u upside the head for allowing that flash to happen....
and apoligize for not telling you that the pilot Injection would be disabled by the flash like we've said on here countless times since October of 2003.....
Yep, not much recourse, I'm afraid. If you refuse the flash, some dealers will even tell you they can't work on the motor until you accept it so you're kind of between a rock and a hard place.
I read a thread on here of dieselstop about an "emissions" re-flash that gives you back one of the older programs that, I believe, included PI. That might have been a California only thing, though.

I've had the emissions reflash and I'm in San Diego, CA. My truck does not currently enjoy PI - it is still gone.
i was thinkin about getting my flashed b/c i suffer from a rough idle at start up too....it only last for a few seconds, at least until i touch the pedel. i guess i'll just have to live with it to keep my smooth sounding engine...sucks though b/c i paid 40g for a rough ideling truck.

I'd also like to learn just who the dealer was that took that position ?????
Not withstanding anything to the contrary contained herein,
I do not authorize any flashing/reflashing of any of this
Truck's computers; This prohibition is of the essence.

Just a Thought.....on......My Perceptions......
Me too. I'd like to know the name of the dealer...what about it jeb?
I bought the truck @ Wakefield Ford in Wake Forest NC. I'll be talking to them tomorrow about what they have done to my truck. Not sure yet, but I think power is off and fuel economy lower.
Before the reflash, the computer said 12.2 MPG while towing a 6x12 twin axle box trailer. Hand calculation says it is closer to 10 MPG.
Another jeb factual statement? Probably thousands of dealers have said that.
Ah, I see the gang is all here. My dealer told me that, Rochester Ford in Rochester, MN. I didn't care, I wanted the re-flash anyway to see if it would fix any of my problems but the service writer mentioned it as part of the conversation about the truck.
I've also read it here and/or over on diesel stop. And it makes sense to me. If you have a problem with your truck and they have flash that may take care of it and you refuse it, I wouldn't expect them to try anything else. Especially with the shrinking hours ford is paying for warranty work these days.

So something that is part of a coversation now becomes what Ford says.
Can you document this?
The shrinking part, or is this ONE more generality, curious I am!
I know the initial issue in the thread should not have forced a flash and I agree that you should be able to refuse it if it's not related to what you brought the truck in for. But the thread has interesting info about the flashes, too.

If you'd read my post, you'd see I said some dealers, not ford.
Jeb, you can't even keep your own statements straight.
