I local guy will sell me Ford Motorsports Shorty Headers for $100 - used, but in excellent condition. Is this a good price and are there any problems that I could run into. I was thinking that perhaps headers are like gaskets and once torqued down they mold to the surface, which could mean they might not fit snug on my block. I was going to wait and buy Bassani's, but these seem like they could be a good deal. Thanks in advance for opinions/advice.
I guess its a good deal. Are they just chromed, or have some sort of coating? They should bolt up fine, but like you worry, if his head wasnt true, you might have some sealing issues later on. Personally, I would hold out for a new pair.
Go with the motorsport headers if the flanges are straight. Put them on my truck and they fit perfect. Make sure you use good seals for them. They should be made of stainless steel so they should last a while. Mine had all connections for the egr hookup as well. Mine have been on for a year and no problems with the bolts coming lose. THe bolts that came with the headers were very good quality 12 point bolts.
