Heater core leaking?

Hello,
I'm new to FTE forum and found out that many of you have made posts about the topic of the heater core in Expy and F150's. My wife's truck 98 Expy is leaking coolant near the ac drain onto the ground and it also comes out of the vent while it is running and the a/c fan is on. I'm new to working on this truck. I have a Hanes manual and was wondering from your expierence if replacing the heater core is tougher than usual job for a beginner? Also I was wondering if somebody out can tell me exactly how coolant can get in the ac vents? I'm willing to do the work because I need to save money. But if the work is too confusing for a begineer what do you all suggest?

What scares me the most is tearing out the dash. I'm just a little nervous about tearing into this truck and not being able to get it back together. Please advise. Any suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks,

Dusty

Its a daunting task for a beginner, and even many professional techs first time around. Ive done many of them and it still takes at least 4 hours in a professional shop environment with all the power tools and equipment avaliable. At home it may take you a day to two days.

The heater core leaks down into the AC plenum and thus out the AC drain, and can find its way to vents by air volume from the fan.

Thanks for the information. Do you have any tips or things that I may need to have prior to tearing it apart? I am open to any suggestions. Thanks again,

Dusty
