Please!!!!! I need help. I need to know how to take the rotor off of a 1991 Ford Explorer with 4 wheel drive. I saw a earlier posting stating you need to take a magnetic peice out just need to know how!!Please help me!! thanks in advance. ps I have a Ford Heavy Line Tech across the street anyone need help there I would be more than happy to get him for other questions anyone might have.
I'm assuming automatic hubs and you looked at the photo that was on the 92 post. According to Haynes, and how I remember my 93,
1. Remove small snap ring, right on axle shaft using snap ring pliers or screwdriver.
2. Remove spacer (thin washer with splined inner).
3. Pull plastic cam assembly from wheel bearing adjusting nut. Don't pry, try turning it.
4. Pull both plastic thrust spacers, keep even, and slightly turn wheel bearing adjusting nut to take pressure off.
5. Remove locking key (little guy in keyway) use magnet if necessary.
6. Remove wheel bearing adjusting nut with 2-3/8 socket.
7. The rotors all yours.
Try budging the wheel bearing adjusting nut a hair one way or the other just in case the key is pinched in there. Be careful, too much and you'll damage the key.
Ha Ha! that was (is) my BF FastCloud who was working on the 92 (it turned out to be a 91 after all) in the other thread.
He got stuck on the magnet part too. Thanks FordFool for the additional instructions.
Who ever gets it first, post back.
