my pickups been acting up lately, and im suspecting its the fuel filter, or the pump, so i figured i'd change the filter first. i crawled underneith and found the filter. went to pull the lines off, and found i could not do so. how the HE!! to u do this? is there some special tool u need to do it or something? i was hoping it would be a quicky job, but turned out not to be. HELP!
easiest job in the world. I own a 90, not sure if the newer ones are different, you didnt specify year, model, eng size, anyways, there are plastic clips on the ends that need to come off, but beford you do anything hit the fuel pump shutoff switch, and run the truck till it dies, this will prevent gas spraying you in the eye when you take off the lines. After you get the lines off(be careful these clips can break), replace the filter and remember to turn on the fuel pump, take a couple seconds to start and your done!
It either uses clips like fordtruckman described, just use a flathead to pop them out, or it needs a fuel line disconnect tool, you can get these at auto zone, pep boys, checker, sears, etc. To get the metal clip thingies off the ones that require the tool push up and over.
A 95 will need the tool to release the lines. It looks kinda like scissors - has a hinge in the middle, and a release tool for two different size fuel lines on either side.
Fit the tool over the line on the filter, then slide it into the connector on the fuel line. Give it a little twist and then pull the fuel line off the filter. Be sure you get the disconnect tool all the way in the fitting, and you shouldn't have any problems.
